Dave Stensel 27th April 2011

I was so lucky to have known Orrie and have him as my great friend and professional colleague for over 30 years. Whether we were debating wastewater treatment, drinking wine, having a great dinner (Washington, Florida or Maryland crabs were all a big hit) fishing, musing on the world, it was with vigor and passion, and was always special and unique. He was BIG in every way - his intellect, his passion for whatever he was doing, his friendship, his spirit and joy of life. He was tough too; in spite of sore knees, back and who knows what else he just plunged ahead and took on things each day to the fullest. Orrie was highly respected by all for his contributions and effort to always do better, and to help others. He was loved by all who knew him for his respect and kindness to people, his honesty, and humility. I sure miss him and he will continue to be a big part of my life and I always tell our students in Civil and Environmental Engineering about Orrie, who started in the same building as them. -Dave Stensel, Professor, University of Washington.
